Now that the middle of the month is approaching I am starting to really get ready for the holiday stretch. The decorating is done, cards in the mail, tree up and gifts all bought. It was easy to keep it dialed back again this year, which is a good way to simplify the season, keep the stress low, and avoid overspending.
I haven’t seen very many decorated houses, perhaps this weekend people will tackle it. The lights are one thing I always enjoy, especially the classic displays of candles in the windows and lights on evergreen trees. This week will be when I start the various holiday tunes on my commute and at work, it will be a nice background sound.
I have always wanted to visit one of the European holiday markets that are featured on various travel shows. Though flying has become such a hassle I am not sure I ever will. Unless I go first class😉. Now that would be delightful! Have you ever flown first class?
We have made it thus far and the days of winter are upon us. The Christmas lights are doing their best to keep the night at bay and lift the spirits of passersby. I find this time of year can bring forth a mix of emotions; exhilaration at the clear light of midday, annoyance at the rudeness of shoppers to the clerks, and melancholy as the season is always different that what I mean for it to be. Time often gets away from me, and my best laid plans to slow down and savor the season get squeezed a bit. Even this year there is still that underlying feeling of having to rush to get some things done. However, this year it has been way easer to scale things done, to focus on the pace of each day a little bit more. We are warm, safe, fed and healthy, so other than seeing friends and family at will what more could we actually want?
And so it starts. The last few years I would have been busy prepping for the December open studios. Now, in the world of the internet I am spending time on the phone with tech support trying to get things all set up for holiday shopping! Not been a techie it is much tougher for me! Anyhow, now that I have spent 2 evenings on uploads and such, I have my selections up and the first of the holiday specials ready to go. I might be a bit early, but given that Thanksgiving is just around the corner I am betting I will blink and it will be mid December. And that is without any unexpected snowstorms!!
