Taking to the woods

Recently all my walks have been to and from bus, train or subway stations, so today I deemed it time to get out into nature to refresh myself. It has been a harrowing 2 months here as my husband had a massive heart attack back in August after a run while we were driving home. In spite of us staring CPR within 2 minutes he has suffered the effects of lack of oxygen and is having to relearn so many things that we don’t think twice about. He will also need full bypass surgery when he is strong enough. All without the obvious warning signs we expect for this sort of health issue. It has been long days in Boston where we had him transferred for better treatment, but he has made great progress in the rehab facility he is at now. He is walking, talking with new words and phrases each visit, relearning how to swallow, etc. It is difficult, and he has said how frustrating it is to work so hard on simple things. We are looking at a long road of recovery as brain injuries are unpredictable. We can only go one day at a time though.

  1. Dear Rebecca, I have greatly missed you and your posts! I had a sad feeling something serious had happened as you said in your last post, a trip to the hospital…
I am so sorry you and your family are going through this hardship. I will keep you and your husband in my prayers; it is a blessing that each day your husband gains strength and is able to do more. Stay strong, and keep writing; sending positive thoughts and love to you and yours.

    • Thank you Ellen! Every prayer and good thought counts. I can’t wait to see you holiday decorations this year, they are how i stumbled upon your blog!
