I was fortunate to win Heidi Levan’s book Soul Songs on Goodreads a couple of months ago, I got so much more than a just a book. Heidi’s pieces are very insightful, ones you can read again and again finding new bits to mull over. It is definitely a book to savor as there are things that need to filter through your mind. This is a great book to give as a gift or let set up residence by a favorite reading spot. I felt as if it was like a chat with a good friend on where each of you is at, where you want to be and where you’ve been. Heidi has a light touch and is able to keep the pieces from becoming too syrupy, they are a delight to read and my copy came at the perfect time. I often read non-fiction on heavy topics and when I have reached my limit I like an antidote. I try to find books like this that are lyrical and encouraging, ones that allow me to slow down and enjoy the words and thoughts. When I read this, I was reminded of The Sound of Paper (Julia Cameron) in the phrases used and images conveyed. If you can set aside some refueling time for yourself, some time to refill your creative bucket, find this book and give it a read.
